I've just received and read this book. (It took me less than an hour to read cover to cover.) I do think it is a very good book for the beginner. It teaches the basics in a very clear manner and it is not overwhelming, as a book that also contained advanced projects might be. It is definitely a technique book, not a project book, so intermediate and above wireworkers should keep that in mind. I am a decent wire wrapper but have never attempted my own findings, which is why I bought the book. For that, it does the job well. I will be using his instructions to make earwires and S-clasps, in particular. However, I have to agree with other reviewers that the wire jewelry gallery in the back is just infuriating. The pieces are beautiful, but there is no advice as to how to make them. Some I could figure out just by looking, especially the author's own work. But many, like the woven wire and crocheted wire pieces, were more frustrating than inspiring. A gallery of simpler but equally beautiful work, which might challenge the student to advance only slightly beyond the techniques shown in the book, would have been a better choice.

After working with several texts filled with colorful photographs of the tools and projects for various levels of wire-worked jewelry, I found Lareau's book a great starting point for my foray into wire-working. He includes some color photographs, but I found the drawings accompanying the written instructions helped clarify what I needed to do. He really stressed the basics, then led the reader to add techniques. I liked the way the author followed all the basic instructions with color photographs of his own and other designers' work. I would think this book would best suit wire neophytes, though it could also be considered a refresher course or a reference work for intermediate wire workers, too.

The second half of the title to this book is "Wire techniques for the beadworker and jewelry maker." It begins with the usual introduction to the tools you will need to complete projects in this book. It also gives descriptions of different wires and their gauges. Then comes the projects themselves. There is one photograph of the finished project at the beginning and then only hand-drawn pictures that aren't nearly as close-up as they should be. The drawings are very distracting. The large majority of my jewelry-making books have beautiful, clear photos to go with each step of instructions, and it is extremely helpful. There are so many better books available that I wouldn't buy this one.

Yes this is definitely a beginner's book...doesn't compare to Miller's Bead on a Wire...BUT I believe this book gives the readers who aren't so into wire use in jewelry except for the basics just what they need. I found the simpleness of the approach of this book and the clear directions, the fun of the ear wires & head pins, donut embellishments and most importantly the "strongest wire hook and eye clasp in the Universe" make it a useful addition to my library. Yes, Miller's book is always there for me, but when I have had to describe various methods to others, Lareau's book "All Wired Up" was a quick and easy way to find the subject quickly. So if you want only the basics - enough to save money on making your own clasps, ear wires, head pins, etc. in a book that is easy to use and find what you need, this is it. If you want more detailed information to get you on your way to really do advanced wire work in jewelry design, get Miller's book. Or if you are like me - get both. I am not disappointed that I have both as they serve different purposes.

In this book, Mark Lareau, offers a How To use Wire for art, jewelry and production of a knowledge base in this art for for the reader. All Wired Up: Wire Techniques For the Beadworker and Jewelry Maker is another Beadwork How-To book in a series that shos how to do what the makers of the jewelry on the shelves of so many shops and botiques around the world. Many had drawing of the steps necessary for proper bending and weaving tequniques the reader will need to produce the wonderful pieces displayed in pictures at the end of the book. Many artists offer up their talents for observation and the reader can used these creations for patterns or ideas for their own designs. I like this book for the offering of instruction, but I love the designs pictured in the last pages of this book.

I really like this book, its very informative with step by step illustrations. However; I would have preferred that there would be more step by step pictures of someone actually making the item versus the illustrations; at least on the more difficult pieces. There is some referencing to previous pages. At first glance it seems like steps are missing but really you just have to go to these other pages to get that particular step. I can see this as a way to save page space in the book but its still kind of annoying. The pictures at the end of the book to show off what you can do with the techniques learned are really inspiring but I would have preferred to see these in-between as more like "chapter" ends to illustrate that X and X technique was used for R piece.

Having absolute no experience in wire working, I was eager to find a book that would teach me the basics in a simple straight-forward way. THIS IS THE BOOK!All Wired Up was written for someone who has the desire to learn, but doesn't know where to start. Large illustrations and easy to follow instructions guide the novice in learning the Basics from simple loops-stars (which for some reason I just cannot make) to Basic Projects, Findings, Ear Wires, Clasps (really easy) and Cages for beads/stones/marbles/or?)The Contemporary Wirework shown at the end of the book is inspiring and does require much more knowledge of wirework; however, it does inspire the beginner to learn more and try harder to create their own wirework masterpieces. At least, it inspired me to do so.
