About the Author
E. B. White, the author of such beloved classics as Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little, and The Trumpet of the Swan, was born in Mount Vernon, New York. He graduated from Cornell University in 1921 and, five or six years later, joined the staff of The New Yorker magazine, then in its infancy. He died on October 1, 1985, and was survived by his son and three grandchildren.Mr. White's essays have appeared in Harper's magazine, and some of his other books are: One Man's Meat, The Second Tree from the Corner, Letters of E. B. White, Essays of E. B. White, and Poems and Sketches of E. B. White. He won countless awards, including the 1971 National Medal for Literature and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, which commended him for making a "substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children."During his lifetime, many young readers asked Mr. White if his stories were true. In a letter written to be sent to his fans, he answered, "No, they are imaginary tales . . . But real life is only one kind of life—there is also the life of the imagination."

Charlotte's Web was the first chapter book I read, WAY back in the 1980s when I was in the 1st grade. When my own kids were in the 1st grade I decided we should all read it together. It was just as wonderful as I remembered. Though I did remember it being sad, I did not read it that first time with the perspective of a mom and I won't lie, I was a sobbing, blubbering idiot by the end.We will read Trumpet of the Swan next. Hopefully I can keep it together enough to get through that one.
This is an excellent set of children tales, particularly the excellency of his renown author. However I'd would like to have this precious collection printed in a better quality paper. Cannot say how much I love this box set. I read stories to adults so that they will know what it feels like to be read to and then read to their children. When I brought the set to class these grown women got so excited at the prospect of reading Charlotte's Web. None of them had ever heard of The Trumpet of the Swan so of course we read that first. They were enthralled, Louis has a whole new set of fans. It's great to sell these three books together because some people have heard of some of the books but not all of them. Fantastic buy they got here in no time I'm so happy with it. Yay for Prime!
You can't go wrong with the works of E.B. White. I loved his stories as a child, and now I enjoy sharing them with my own children. So far, they are really enjoying them. This set has all the must-reads, and for a pretty good price. The paperbacks are a bit light, so I'm not sure how they'll stand up over the years, but for bedtime story reading, they work just fine. This is a wonderful addition to our library.
They're simply required books for any kid's library. Ultimately parents have only two real responsibilities to their kids to have them grow up to be successful humans: keep them as healthy as is reasonable, and teach them how to read. Everything else is a bonus.These books are great ones to read to them, then great ones for them to read themselves.
I always loved this EB White set as a kid, more specifically Stuart Little and The Trumpet of the Swan. All three of these books are classics, but I can't necessarily say that they are timeless. Reading about sarsaparilla and Studebakers makes my six year old think I'm bringing down the heavens and resorting to brujeria. Read to your kids!
These books are required reading for all children of every age, no matter how old you are. I'm in my 50"s and I love them. I will read them to any children that I babysit for and enjoy them myself, for what is life if we cannot retain some of the magic of childhood!!
This is such a good set. My step daughter read Charlotte's web all in one day. I remember reading all of these in elementary school and think all kids need to read these.
