This book really a great introduction to emotional intelligence for little kids. The illustrations and descriptions are simple yet evocative of the feeling examined on each page. The heart cut-outs are really engaging and it's cool to see how they're incorporated on each page. I started reading this to my kiddo when she was not quite two, and it's amazing to see how she relates more deeply to the emotions as she nears the age of three. It has really guided the way she talks about her feelings. I also like that the main character is fun and playful and slightly tomboyish, so it doesn't feel out of place as a gift for either gender. This is one of those that I give as a gift to every kid I love.
Beautifully illustrated! The story is wonderful, as well. My little boy likes to hear that it is OK to have different feelings. Sometimes you are going to be sad or angry, but that will change with time. You should celebrate all of the good feelings! He likes to give everyone hugs after reading this book.
My 2 year old LOVES this book. We read it almost every night since we bought it 2 months ago. Since, she asks me often, Mommy, what are you feeling? It's been a good tool to use to ask her how she is feeling as well and has increased her awareness/vocabulary/communication.
I love this book and all the kids I have read it to really enjoy it. I use it in my counseling practice to teach about emotions and to create discussion about how and when they feel the different feelings discussed in the book. The kids love the images and learning about the various feelings. I use it with spanish speaking families and translate the content, it's great for learning emotions in both languages if you can do that. I personally love the messages and the illustrations.
The best book for explaining emotions I buy stacks and give them away for our classrooms and birthday parties and even newborns. My toddler explains her feelings from this book and it melts my heart when my toddler says "her heart feels hopeful"
After one reading, my three-year-old was already trying to recite parts of it, like he does with all his favorite books. The illustrations are cute and sweet, and the language is very descriptive. Great for teaching kids how to put words to their emotions.Update: after a few weeks, this book has become a major coping tool. This morning, my son came out of his room and started crying three or four times in a row, presumably because he was overwhelmed by his baby sister. I offered to read it to him, and on the "hopeful" page, which comes right after the "sad" page and reassures the child that sadness doesn't last forever, my son looked up at me and smiled. At he end, he requested I read it again, and he's been calm ever since. I am adding this book to my go-to list of gifts for babies and toddlers. It is amazing.
This book is perfect! I bought it for my two girls (2 and 5) for Valentine's Day and they ask to read it every night. They love telling me which feeling their heart has each night. I cannot say enough good things about it.
Wonderful book, with very nice illustrations. It is normalizing all of the BIG feelings that a young child has to learn to handle. I feel like it is showing my 2 year old daughter that those different feelings are all OK and not bad. She chooses this book as a bedtime story several nights a week for months now. bonus is that the back cover has many different colored hearts and my daughter likes finding or counting all the red, then yellow, etc.
